Franklin Akupue

I am a creative in the field of Art. I’m also a tattoo Artist. Through my artwork, I aim to explore and convey messages about society, life, and the complexities of the human mind. I am particularly drawn to telling untold stories through my paintings, shedding light on narratives and perspectives that often go unnoticed.

In terms of artistic style, I enjoy blending elements of abstract and portrait techniques. This allows me to express my unique artistic vision and create a style that is distinctively my own. I firmly believe that art has the power to transcend time, and therefore, my intention is to create paintings that not only outlive their creators but also remain timeless in their meanings

I am versatile  and work with other mediums, but I am best known for my oil on canvas and pencil works. I hold a BA and MA in Creative Arts from the University of Lagos in 2009 and 2019 respectively and I am an art educator as well as a mentor to young artists. Olorunyemi Kolapo

I am a science inspired artist. My work is about the identity and connections of human beings through language, gesture, looks, expression, physical placement, cultural values, standards, emotions, and desires. Exploring how we communicate, accept, constrain, or reject these connections to form relationships is an evident theme throughout my work. My art centers on the human figure, which relays the connection back to me. Portraits are a predominant part of my work, as I am fascinated and challenged by the aging, experience, environment, lighting, background, and just what a slight muscle movement can make. My new body of work is focused on the future and the social imaginaries which makes us who we are. I research, investigate and illustrate the African identity and make it appear in the future ahead so we don’t lose them completely. I work on how I live my life, more consuming ideas, and reflections on how moral and spiritual gauges are created within social, historical, and instinctual contexts.
